Leader's Block
Leadership Speaker Contest 2023

Leader’s Block is Critical, So Why Don’t We Talk about it? – Introducing Ritu G. Mehrish

Ritu G. Mehrish is a Singaporean executive and team coach, speaker, and author, who helps leaders and organizations get over Leader’s Block—a condition that strikes most leaders at some point during their careers. This condition leads to struggle and exasperation, and many leaders end up quitting their jobs because of it.

Ritu brought Leader’s Block to our attention by joining Speaker Contest 2023. In fact, she wowed our jury and secured a place in the Final, which will be held on 10th May at 18:00 EEST. We interviewed her regarding the contest and her keynote topic, “Leader’s Block – The Opposite of Potential,” and here is what she told us.

How did you start your speaker career?

“My speaking career started out of curiosity and inspiration. I was looking to spread my message and take it to more people and I found speaking was a great vehicle to do that. Also, I must admit that I was inspired by my mentor Fredrik Haren to become a speaker.”

Why did you want to join the Speaker Contest, and how has your journey in the competition been so far?

“My answer is a bit similar to the previous question. I joined the contest to spread the message of Leader’s Block to a new audience. My journey has been fabulous so far, getting to listen to such brilliant and global speakers across diverse topics. The process has also taken me to my childhood – the nervousness of taking part in a competition, speaking in front of judges. It’s been fun so far!”

Why do you think your speech is so important for business leaders to hear?

“My topic is something that is critical to every leader and yet it’s not spoken about openly. There is a sense of stigma and taboo attached to it and yet every leader I speak with individually has experienced it. My hope is that through my talk I can help remove that reluctance and normalize it for leaders to openly talk about it. It’s also one of the main reasons for unproductivity in leaders.”

Have you made use of the MySpeaker Rhetorich coaching? How did it benefit you?

“Yes, I did receive the coaching from the brilliant André Chaker. The detailed feedback/inputs have helped me tweak my speech and delivery to make it more effective. I must say that this is one of the highlights of the contest.”
