Make Meaningful Connections – 6 Networking Tips

One of the most valuable parts of Nordic Business Forum is the opportunity to connect with other guests. Here are a few practical ways to make the most of networking during the event.

Last year we collected networking advice from our event guests. Thank you Aki Koikkalainen, Amy Carroll, André Noël Chaker, Laura Lindsberg, Mari Railo, and Valdar Liive for the tips! Check out the rest of their advice from our PDF Summary.

1. Do Your Homework

If you are hoping to make some new connections, it might be a good idea to find out who’s coming. On our event app Brella, you can find other guests with similar interests, and even reach out before the event.

“I suggest using Brella already before the event. I send messages and meeting invites to the people I’d love to connect with—better to plan ahead than rely on chance encounters.” – Mari

2. Prepare Yourself

To ease the pressure of meeting new people, start by preparing a short introduction, choosing an outfit that makes you feel confident, and having a few conversation starters ready. Asking, “What did you think of the last keynote?” always works.

You can also wear a networking pin to show what interests you and make it easier for others to start a conversation. Networking pins are available at the venue and represent different topics, such as Performance, Collaboration, Decision-making, and AI.

“Get to the venue early enough so you don’t feel stressed when starting to meet new people. Wear that outfit that makes you feel amazing and confident. Get ready to approach the people you want to speak to and go light on the alcohol.” – Amy

3. Be Approachable and Open

Body language speaks louder than words. A friendly smile, open posture, and genuine curiosity make you more approachable. If you’re feeling brave, venture out into the Extreme Extroverts area and see what happens!

“You can show your openness to others by looking at people with a friendly smile. Don’t do it for too long though because it’s creepy!” – André

4. Prioritize Meaningful Conversations

Your goal shouldn’t be to collect as many contacts as possible. Instead, we suggest you focus on a few meaningful conversations. The best connections are built through genuine interest, thoughtful questions, and shared ideas.

Underneath the business attire and behind the fancy titles, we are all human and crave authentic connection. In every encounter, be curious, be empathetic, and be yourself. Authenticity and active listening will go a long way.

“I’d rather have a few meaningful conversations than a dozen that no one remembers the next morning.” – Aki

5. Provide Curiosity and Value

Remember that great networking starts with curiosity. Listen carefully, ask questions, and look for ways to help others. A useful insight, a helpful introduction, or a fresh perspective can be far more valuable than a sales pitch.

“When you approach someone, be genuinely curious. Ask smart questions, listen more than you speak, and find ways to bring value.” – André

6. Stay Connected After the Event

Networking shouldn’t end when the event is over. Remember to reconnect with the people you met soon after the event days. Also, share your learnings and continue the conversation on LinkedIn and Instagram using #nbforum2026 and #inspiredbyNBF. You might just discover a valuable connection you missed during the event!

“Online networking is a skill of its own. Being active on platforms like LinkedIn can be time consuming, but it also provides significant value.” – Laura
