With just ten days to go until Nordic Business Forum 2025, it’s time to start getting ready—not only for the keynotes, but also for the invaluable networking opportunities. Thousands of leaders, entrepreneurs, and professionals will gather under one roof, and the connections you make could be just as impactful as the insights you hear on stage.
To help you make the most of the event, we’ve gathered ten practical networking tips, supported by advice from our event guests. Thank you Aki Koikkalainen, Amy Carroll, André Noël Chaker, Laura Lindsberg, Mari Railo, and Valdar Liive for the tips! Feel free to check out the rest of their advice from our PDF Summary.
1. Set Clear Goals for Networking
Before the event, take a moment to yourself to reflect on your goals. What do you hope to get out of the event? Are you hoping to meet potential clients, find partners, or simply practice your networking skills? Clarity makes every encounter more purposeful.
“When you go to a business event, you need to have a goal and a reason.” – Valdar
2. Do Your Homework
If you are hoping to make some new connections, it might be a good idea to find out who’s coming. On our event networking app Brella, you can find other guests with similar interests, and even reach out before the event.
“I suggest using Brella already before the event. I send messages and meeting invites to the people I’d love to connect with—better to plan ahead than rely on chance encounters.” – Mari
3. Prepare Yourself
Meeting new people can be daunting. Ease the pressure by preparing a short introduction, choosing an outfit that makes you feel confident, and having a few conversation starters ready. Asking, “What did you think of the last keynote?” always works.
“Get to the venue early enough so you don’t feel stressed when starting to meet new people. Wear that outfit that makes you feel amazing and confident. Get ready to approach the people you want to speak to and go light on the alcohol.” – Amy
4. Provide Value
When meeting new connections, don’t focus only on what you can gain from them. Focus also on giving back. Share insights, offer introductions, or simply listen well. Great connections grow from mutual value.
“When you approach someone, be genuinely curious. Ask smart questions, listen more than you speak, and find ways to bring value.” – André
5. Prioritize Quality over Quantity
Time is limited and you can’t meet everyone. But you don’t have to! Focus on building a few strong connections instead of dozens of forgettable ones.
“I’d rather have a few meaningful conversations than a dozen that no one remembers the next morning.” – Aki
6. Be Approachable and Open
Body language speaks louder than words. A friendly smile, open posture, and genuine curiosity make you more approachable. If you’re feeling brave, venture out into the Extreme Extroverts area and see what happens!
“You can show your openness to others by looking at people with a friendly smile. Don’t do it for too long though because it’s creepy!” – André
7. Mind Your Time–and Energy
Obviously, don’t be late to any meetings, but also make sure you are taking some time for yourself. The event days are intense, so schedule breaks to recharge. You’ll show up as your best self when you take care of your energy.
“Don’t try to over-optimize: if you’re in a hurry, that can show too. It’s good to have a goal and an idea of what you’re looking for, but leave space and time for spontaneous encounters as well.” – Valdar
8. Create Emotional Connections
Underneath the business attire and behind the fancy titles, we are all human and crave authentic connection. In every encounter, be curious, be empathetic, and be yourself. Authenticity and active listening will go a long way.
“If you are sincere, others will remember the appreciation you gave.” – Laura
9. Nurture Your Newfound Connections
The real value of networking often comes after the event. Follow up with the people you connected with—send a message, invite them for coffee, or share an article that made you think of them.
“A great conversation is just the starting point. You have to keep the relationship alive if you want it to mean something.” – André
10. Don’t Forget about Online Networking
If you didn’t have the time to meet people during the event, it may not be too late! You can still connect online. Use the official event hashtags #nbforum2025 and #inspiredbyNBF to share insights and find like-minded professionals. If your online networking skills are feeling a bit rusty, check out our recent blog on mastering online networking!
“Online networking is a skill of its own. Being active on platforms like LinkedIn can be time consuming, but it also provides significant value.” – Laura
Bonus Tip: Don’t Forget to Have Fun!
Networking doesn’t have to be stressful! The best connections often come when you’re relaxed and enjoying yourself.
