5 Steps to Take After NBForum 2018

Building business leaders who change the world is our passion and we do this by providing lessons and inspiration through our events. But let’s face it; we can only do so much. We can’t make people change, nor can we make the changes in their businesses for them. Once we close our event doors, we pass the baton to you.

Taking the lead from our previous blogs on how to make the most of your time before and during Nordic Business Forum 2018, we’d like to focus on the steps you should take after the event. We want to encourage you to make most of the new business relationships formed at NBForum 2018 and turn new ideas into an exciting reality.

1. Reconnect with your new contacts

For many, one of the most valuable resources afforded to them with a ticket to NBForum2018 is the wealth of potential new contacts. You are surrounded by 7,499 of the brightest business minds in the Nordics for two days, and our speakers and event activities provide all the talking points you need to get conversations started! Our guests chat with each other over coffee, meet at theme tables for spontaneous discussions, exchange business cards, and even make dedicated Brella meetings for 15-minutes of inspired conversations.

The fun doesn’t have to end there. Right after the event, make sure you call your new contacts. Reach out. Send them an email or a LinkedIn request. One of your new connections could hold the power to open up hundreds of doors for you and your business. That is why we hope that you continue your conversations outside of NBForum 2018, using your time with us to build the foundation of your future business relationships.

2. Revisit your notes

Zig Ziglar once said that “repetition is the mother of learning, the father of action, which makes it the architect of accomplishment.”

We couldn’t agree more.

How much do you want to bet that, out of your hundreds of pages of notes made during the event days, you will never look at them again? We don’t want you to lose the breakthrough, lightbulb moments and ideas that our speakers inspired in you, so we strongly encourage you to revisit your notes as soon as possible after the event. Browse them through and reflect. Do you see things differently a week after the event than you did during?

Whatever comes to your mind while reading through your notes after the event, try rewriting the key ideas of each speech that are relevant to your work and life. How do these ideas help you achieve your personal and professional goals?

Set follow-up reminders to revisit them again in one, two, three months from now. Check in with yourself at the 6-month mark to see how many ideas have made it off the page and into your workplace.

3. Expand your notes

We’ll be publishing some additional content on our website as the event goes on, and we hope that you can use them to add to your notes and capture all the brilliant ideas shared on stage. One prime example of useful additions to your notes comes from the talented Linda Saukko-Rauta who turns the key points of each presentation into visual sketch notes. Use them as pictorial summaries of your lessons learned and add them to your own notes.

As many of our event attendees and viewers do, we will also be sharing quotes and ideas from each speaker on Twitter during the event days. So, if you’re looking for a series of snappy one-liners from the show, head over to Twitter and browse through tweets tagged with #NBForum2018.

You can also take a look at NBR’s live reports to catch the most interesting parts of each speaker session. These are short but succinct articles that our team of journalists will publish during the day to highlight the key stories, ideas, and lessons shared by each speaker.

For a deeper dive into the topics and sessions of NBForum 2018, make sure you sign up for our newsletter – we’ll send you our official Executive Summary that covers the entire event. This will be published after the event and should help you refresh your memory and fill in any gaps as you revisit your notes.

4. Share your lessons

Many people learn best when they teach. This is why we encourage you to present your insights and experience at NBForum 2018 to your colleagues, to your entire team, or even to your entire organization. This is how everyone can benefit from your event experience! You can also go beyond your own organization by sharing your lessons on social media or on a blog. By writing, structuring, and presenting your ideas, you can process them more thoroughly.

If you are engaged on different social media channels, keep the conversation going using #NBForum2018. There are plenty of people (including us) who continue to share their thoughts on social media after the event!

5. Make the change!

We mean it when we say we’re passing the baton to you; it’s your turn to take what we give you and run with it. It is our hope that the speakers, experiences, and activities that we share with you during the two conference days will spark something within you that propels you to make a breakthrough. You are our leaders, and we trust you to make the world a better place through better business.

In the wise words of John Mackey, “Business is good, and it can be better.” If you’re not sure how to get started on actually making changes, start with a plan. List 1-5 ideas that you want to see happen in your professional and/or personal life. Your ideas can vary from small, achievable goals to large, challenging goals. Take it one step at a time. Next to each goal, list an action that will help you achieve it. These actions will help you make your goals a reality.

Best of luck from us to you, and let us know how it goes!
